When it comes to the city, public safety, transportation,utilities, and LAND USE are the only issues, and there, attorney Dan Lobeck, who founded Control Growth Now 30 years ago to address these issues, stood out as a strong voice for protecting and preserving the environment and the livability and lovability of Sarasota.
Although Debbie Trice and Sheldon Rich are bothwell-qualified individuals who would make good commissioners in normal times,

Sarasota City Hall has now evolved since 2015 into being controlled by "Pay to Play" developers, who have stuffed the City Commissioner Hagen Brody, Eric Arroyo and Kyle Battie in their pockets.

These THREE BRO's are some of the most unqualified City Commissioner ever elected in the City of Sarasota.
In the City of Sarasota, whether Democrat or Republican, it used to be that in order to become a City Commissioner you became a member of your neighborhood association and eventfully represented your neighborhood at the Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA).
You interacted with your fellow neighborhood activists, and also become an active member of City of Sarasota Advisory Boards.

That all began to change during the Sarasota City elections in 2015 when "Pay to Play" Republicans Paul "Fredo" Caragiulo, Joe "Benderson" Barbetta and the 68 TIMES CONVICTED felon Michael Barfield put together a dark Coalition to undermine those involved in neighborhood associations affiliated with the CCNA.
This dark Coalition began to diminish the influence of the City of Sarasota neighborhoods and started the process of turning over City Hall to "Pay to Play" developers. They control City Hall as "Pay to Play" developers already control a corrupt Sarasota County government.
It’s hard to describe the politically outrageous climate of 2015 which led "Pay to Play" Democrats In Name Only (DINO) like Rita Ferrandino, Dianne Hamiton, Gabriel Hament, and Susan Nilon and other Democratic activists to bond with the likes of Barbetta, Barfield and their allies.

They bonded in order to concoct a scenario to defeat neighborhood supported Republican Eileen Normile and Stan Zimmerman and put their less qualified Democrat opponents on the Sarasota City Commission.
In 2015 any knowledgable political observers knew the most qualified candidates to be elected were Republicans Normile and Zimmerman. Not to degrade their Democrat opponents, but in 2015 they did not have the same qualifications that Normile and Zimmerman possessed.

This coalition in 2015 funded tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of mailers solicited from financial sources out of Orlando.
They managed to violate both the spirit and letter of the City's charter both with the unprecedented injection of partisanship, and the violation of campaign finance limitations; limitations that were passed into law overwhelmingly by 88% of City of Sarasota voters just a few years earlier.

BRODY'S RESUME IS A DISASTER
In 2017, Brody is a prime example of an unqualified, elected political hack. His resume is a disaster. Most political observers agreed that Ahearn-Koch and Susan Chapman were the most qualified for the City Commission. Ahearn-Koch was elected, but next to Kyle Battie the most unqualified Sarasota City Commission candidate ever elected, Brody defeated Chapman.
Brody's credentials prior to entering City Hall included getting into white collar crime while a student at Sarasota High School by stealing neighbors’ credit cards and computrs; being asked to leave his job with the State Attorney’s office for not maintaining his law license and having a number of cases vacated as a result and failing to show up for early appearances.
Brody had served on no local neighborhood associations or any of the many City Advisory Boards and his only professional experience was as a former local States Attorney where he was a documented failure.

In 2019 a similar coalition to the one put together in 2015, which was made up of "Pay to Play" Republicans "Fredo" Caragiulo, "Benderson" Barbetta, Jesse Biter; the Argus CEO Christine Robinson, Mary Dougherty of Gulf Coast Builders Exchange (GCBX), Kevin Cooper of local Chamber of Commerce, Barfield and "Pay to Play" DINO's Ferrandino, Nilon, Hamilton, Atwell, Hament, Brody and few other DINO's.
CHANGE THE DATE REFERENDUM MAKES IT EASIER TO BUY ELECTIONS
The Change the Date Referendum made it much easier to elect their handpicked candidates in 2020 by promoting and passing the referendum. This referendum changed the vote for City Commissions to the general election in November instead of March/April where only the election of City Commissioners was on the ballot.
The Coalition knew that a November general election would be to their advantage due their ability to expend thousands of dollars to produce flyers to stuff the mailbox to thousands more voting in a general election in November, than a single item election in March/April.
It doesn't take a seasoned political operative to know a glossy, well put together flyers influences a voter, who knows very little about bottom of the ballot candidates where City Commission candidates will be listed.

Brody had for over a year and a half been vigorously looking for a candidate on behalf of the white folks at the Argus Foundation and local Chamber of Commerce to take out Sarasota City Commissioner Willie Shaw with an African American Commissioner that both he and the "Pay to Play" developers can control.
According to former Sarasota City Commissioner Fredd Atkins, Battie was chosen over seven other unqualified candidates because Battie looked good in a suit.
WHITE DONOR CLASS WANTS SHAW OUT
Shaw has been garnering the disapproval of the Argus/Chamber /GBX lily white good ole boy donor crowd and Jennifer Rominiecki's Selby Gardens donor class. They don't want some uppity African American giving them a problem with $millions$ of Tax Increment Financing Funding (TIFF) and voting down their other million-dollar City of Sarasota projects.

Brody's BRO No. 2 Arroyo has been Brody's lackey ever since he became a City Commissioner. That is when Brody stuffed him in his pocket by making him Vice Mayor and ever since Arroyo has been an inflated peacock.
No one ever knew how much power was vested in the Vice Mayor position until Brody appointed Arroyo to be the City's Vice Mayor.
ARROYO JUMPS IN BED WITH "CUT MY GRASS" HYDE
Arroyo made it an issue how he’s a proud Latino product of the Sarasota school system, suggesting he would fight for the forgotten blue collar and service workers of the City, many of whom live in his City District 3.
Arroyo’s empty suit and empty promises were made evident on his first day on the job, sadly, when of the few people who he could invite due to Covid restrictions to witness his swearing in ceremony, included the video-documented racist Martin Hyde.
City Hall observers said it was like the Dave Chappelle show episode of the blind, African American white supremacist Klu Klux Klan leader seeing Arroyo there with his self-professed mentor and father-figure, Hyde, who just months earlier had been caught on video yelling at Latino teenagers in Sarasota to learn how to speak English and “go cut my grass.”

In 2020, while the Sarasota Herald Tribune and Matt Walsh's Observer buried their heads in the sand, a takeover of the City of Sarasota by "Pay to Play" developers operating out of the Argus Foundation with the support of Joel “Pave Bobby Jones” Schleicher, Biter and the January 6th foreign terrorist/seditionist Hyde took over complete control of all aspects of Sarasota City Government with the immature 3 BRO Commissioners stuffed in their pockets.
The City of Sarasota government has become like Manatee and Sarasota County government where "Pay to Play" developers have stuffed County Commissioners in their pockets turning Sarasota and Manatee into another Broward County.
