These are the events as I best recall them that happened on Monday, March 29:
At about 8:30 a.m. the Mayor called Alexya to get him on Marlon's schedule for % hour that morning. Alexya consulted with me. Marlon simply did NOT have a half hour, because of the fact that his calendar was full, and it was one of those days that I could not move anything.
BRODY "DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT"
The Mayor told Alexya on the phone that Brody "didn't give a shit," and Alexya told me what he said.....l had offered 12 noon to the Mayor (after Marlon's 11-12 meeting with the Vice Mayor), but the Mayor wasn't happy with that offer, because he had something else at that time.

So after Alexya hung up, a little while later, the Mayor literally barged into our side door, very dramatically, with coffee in hand, YELLING in a very, very bullying, manner: WHERE'S MARLON? (very loud).
I quickly said to him, as he was headed right for Marlon's office, "Marlon is on a Zoom with a City Manager from another state! But the Mayor proceeds to open Marlon's door very dramatically and yelled that he wanted to see him NOW." And then he slammed the door shut and walked toward his office, yelling the whole way.
BRODY "UNHAPPY WITH VAN WEZEL E.D BENSEL GETTING ALL THE CREDIT
The mayor stormed by us yelling something about Mary Bensel getting all the credit for the vaccination event and was unhappy that his video was not on the City FB page, and Mary's was. He was yelling that the only reason she was there was to get the shot, and the whole event should be credited to him.

The mayor was yelling back at Marlon that Jan didn't put his video on FB, and he wanted Mary's REMOVED. So, I believe Jan took the video down, and put a video of the mayor that was just a short clip. I showed it to the mayor when he asked me if it had been done, but he was angry that it wasn't the right video of him.
BRODY ON A RANT FOR TWO HOURS
Basically, the mayor was on a rant for about 2 hours at least. I felt very traumatized to say the least, I have heard the mayor yell before, but it was in his office, and he was yelling at Marlon.

I couldn't keep quiet. I turned to the mayor and told him that I had worked for the city since 2006 in many different departments and I have NEVER seen such behavior. He had no response for me. He just walked away.

This was not an "outburst". This was like a 2-hour situation that felt somewhat of a "hostage" situation. In hindsight, I am so upset with myself that I didn't get my handbag and walk out.

According to Sarasota City employee Alexya Alvarenga, when "I arrived to work at 8:00 am on Monday. Mach 28, 2021, it was my understanding that Mayor Brody was displeased about a video being shared on the City's social media account. He felt it did not give him proper recognition for his role in organizing the weekend vaccination event.

I heard staff reply that the City Manager was in a meeting. I observed the Mayor quickly walk to the City Manager's door and heard him scream "We ARE meeting before noon!"

I then heard the Mayor screaming loudly in front of two other staff members but do not recall the exact words. I exited my office as I felt it was important to witness the situation and be near my coworkers to support them during the incident.

This incident frightened me as I questioned whether the Mayor was in control of his emotions and actions. My heart raced during the incident as I planned what I may need to do if things escalated. Following this incident, I had sleepless nights and knew that I would resign my position here at the City if this behavior continued.
I am new to this office area, so asked my colleagues if this was normal behavior from the Mayor. My understanding of their response was that similar incidents had happened in the past but that this one was especially unsettling.oor and observed the Mayor pacing between the two employees' desks while yelling loudly. The Mayor was clenching his first and grunting in what I would describe as a rage. The City Manager (Marlon Brown) exited his office and said something to effect of, "Mayor, Mayor! Calm down! This is not how you act in this office! This is disrespectful and unprofessional."
Mayor Brody loudly screamed something to the effect of "You need to get your employees under control. Jan and Mary are UNBELEIVABLE!" the City Manager responded, "Then talk to ME - do not yell like this in front of my staff."
